Power outage in Stockholm
Updated: After 40 minutes the power came back. The company responsible say two cable problems together made a 220kVolt distribution break.
Aftonbladet writes that 65000 people are without power in Stockholm. Also Svenska Dagbladet writes about it. I got some SMS from friends some time ago talking about the power outage. Sad of course, but interesting and awakening for people in a city that they can end up being without power as well. Not only we who live on the countryside.
But of course there will be a discussion on responsibilities here. Who is responsible for this? How come people can not trust the power distribution? What is the government doing?
I think more people have to understand they have the responsibilities themselves. Either they have to require a connection that do not break (and pay extra) or they have to have batteries, diesel, or simply accept being without power. Luckily more and more people have started understand they have the responsibility themselves. But not enough. Power distribution companies are not there yet with high quality products, and people are still surprised over being without power.
I do not think we live in a more fragile society. Instead we live in a more stable one. If each party is doing what they are supposed to do. Which of course not everyone does. Then one have to have a Plan B. Understand things can be better, but only if we work together. Cooperation between electricity distribution companies and telecom people in the project lead by PTS is a good example of what can be done. Sometimes cooperation is better than just competition.
