Chateau Montelena, Napa Valley, Chardonnay, 1998
This is the first time part from tasting on site I have the famous Montelena Chardonnay. It was not a blind tasting, and we had the wine with food. As I knew about the wine and winery it is easy to say that it is very similar to a typical old world chardonnay. This is a good wine. It is as boring as some people think chardonnay is, but also as good as some people (like me) that like chardonnay think. Crisp, easy to drink. High quality, very high quality. No oak (which otherwise I think can destroy any chardonnay). Light, and not as thick as some blends can be. Once again, a great wine experience at friends places. I like having friends that have interest in drinking wine from their cellar before it is too late. (++)
