ODF or OOXML?

Some people are (surprisingly to me) even thinking of whether ODF or OOXML is the best standard to use for documents. Or rather, if the Microsoft Open XML format should pass the gates needed to pass in ISO. Or even whether Microsoft Open XML format should be recommended format for exchange of documents, for example by a Government.

As I said, I am very very very surprised some people even consider Microsoft Open XML as an open format. Sure, it might be better than Microsoft Word, but open? Well…

Please read what nd, a friend of mine, write and then contact me and we can talk again.

Why is this important? Because a lot of misinformed people are deciding to standardize on OOXML instead of ODF. Is this a bad idea? Yes. How bad is it? Well, let me put it this way: it’s the equivalent of invading Russia in late November dressed in Speedos and armed with three really, really sharp tooth picks. Sound stupid? There you go.
