Investigation on copying music delivered to the Swedish Government
Already when the investigation was initiated there where complaints on the wording used. Now when the report is handed over to the government, we see complaints on it. Complaints that where already known.
What surprising though was that the report include so many things that are wrong. Just plain wrong. It shows the author do not understand how the Internet works, for example who can be responsible for what, and even less understanding on what the implications are if the responsibility is placed on the wrong party.
Some people on the net is already after a few hours explaining how bad this proposal is. If one is nice, one can say the author of the report is naive.
I am very disappointed.
I was a member of the investigation on Child Pornography and you can understand how wrong this report on music and video is just by recognizing that the investigation propose much stronger tools than what we did in the investigation on child pornography.
When in reality the problem is only the lack of good services, i.e. the ability for people to buy the music in the first place. If I am to end this blog entry by saying something nice about the report, I think it describes the problems with the existing services correctly, including the fact that STIM (etc) are applying harder restrictions (and higher fees) for digital distribution than physical. Pretty politically incorrect when we live in times where CO2 emission due to transportation should be minimized as much as possible.
