Article on IPv4 depletion
In the morning newspaper Dagens Nyheter there is an article on IPv4 depletion and IPv6 deployment. Not much news maybe, but, the trend is interesting. Just that this more serious newspaper talk about IPv6 is from my point of view good. It is not an IT related paper, and not a tabloid evening paper that “just want to sell copies based on headlines”. The article is in Swedish (and interviews me and Erik Hallberg at TeliaSonera).
Conclusions in the article is that:
- The IPv4 address pool is on its way to become empty
- Adding IPv6 do cost money, but not much in the form of hardware, but in operations, training etc
- Even though IPv6 is added to the network, one have to support IPv4 for many years
