Is this Internet access?

As part of my ongoing fight to get people to announce what they sell, I once again encountered a very bad product. This time KPN in Amsterdam, their wireless network at Amsterdam Arena.

After connecting to the wifi, and paying bucks to get access, I still do not get access. Or what do you think about the following?

If one have a look at the page that include information on what they sell, they claim the following:

Everything you do at home or in the office on the internet, you can do via HotSpots – email, instant messaging, download music, even make telephone calls. Updated: In a comment I got information about using submission over port 587, something I of course use. I did though find it problematic in a short blog post talk about the real problem I had. I was underestimating the clue of my readers :-) The real problem I had was that I found that port 993 was blocked (IMAP over SSL). After checking and finding that some more ports where blocked, I got tired. Solved the problem by opening an IPSEC tunnel out to an endpoint of the IPSEC tunnel that I know what environment it is in.

To some degree, I find blocking be more fair than hijacking the connection (as you see above regarding the SMTP connection). Hijacked connections are much harder to debug.

Regarding blocking port 25, that of course I understand. But I do not understand hijacking the connection. Specifically without any information about it in the FAQ or documentation I can access before I pay. I will check port 587 when I have torn down the IPSEC tunnel…
