IGF in Geneva, day three (and some IDN stuff)

Day three has ended. Some data on the IGF website has been updated. You can for example now find the transcript of the whole day of open consultations. You can also find things like video of the morning session and afternoon. Or just the audio from the morning and the afternoon.

The topics have of course been around this fall meeting in Hyderabad. Basis for the open consultation is a paper created by the Secretariat with a summary of input from the community. People made not surprising statements, and overall I think people agreed that the paper was good.

The closed session for the MAG was more interesting. First day (yesterday) discussed first the workshops, and then the overall (main) themes. Disagreement existed about terminology (not surprising), and what the correct references to the WGIG report really where. Terms like Internet Governance, Management of Critical Internet Resources, Mangement of Internet where discussed. Quite large disagreements on some issues.

Overwhelming was though discussions with UNESCO and ITU regarding Internationalized Domain Names. The IDNA2008 standard is getting closer and closer to be finished (you can find documents here). Also, the ICANN projects on IDN move forward. For example the IDNC working group where I am very active at the moment. My work consists of working with the technical evaluation criteria for new IDN ccTLDs.
