Brussels, Data Retention

The day after I was in Stockholm, I had to go to Brussels over the day for a meeting regarding implementation of the Data Retention Directive. I have already earlier earlier written about this in this blog. About the implementation in Denmark, the investigation in Sweden, my personal reaction to the Swedish proposal and finally my thoughts on what should happen now. All written some time ago.

During the summer the discussion about the FRA legislation has dominated the discussions in Sweden, but now also discussions about the Data Retention has started. We’ll see what will happen.

In Brussels, I have been part of an informal group that has worked with the directive. We have reported back once to the Member States. I worked on issues related to webmail and email. There will most certainly be another presentation this fall, followed by the creation of a Formal Group continuing the work on these issues.
