Static and dynamic URLs?
Google write in their blog about static and dynamic URLs. The article is interesting and give good advice on how to design URL’s.
But I do not like their choice of taxonomy. A static URL is for me one that give back the same data every time it is used. Something that can stay in a bookmark file. Be archived. Or maybe that is a stable URL?
Tim Berners Lee wrote that cool URI’s don’t change, and that bring up I think more important issues. That we should talk about URI’s and not URL’s, and that it is much more important whether URI’s change or not than what they look like.
Too many websites, for example the one of The Swedish Government, changes when major restructuring happens. In the case of the Swedish Government when the Government changes. This implies links only have an average lifetime of 2 years. Not good enough.
