More money to distribution of time over Internet in Sweden

Swedish Government today took a decision to use 4.2MSEK for time. Might sound a bit weird to pay for it, but in reality it cost some money to produce good time and then distribute it over the Internet using NTP.

Regeringen har idag beslutat att bevilja Post- och Telestyrelsen (PTS)
ett bidrag på 4,2 miljoner kronor för insatser inom området robust och
spårbar nationell tid. Syftet är att säkerställa en fortsatt god kvalitet
av tid över Internet. Funktionaliteter i moderna IT system är beroende av
korrekt tid. Exempel på sådana behov är banktransaktioner, elektroniska
signaturer, tidsstämpling av olika typer av information och poster i
loggdatabaser för uppföljning.

Time is in Sweden produced by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and STUPI, and available via NTP from time servers run by Netnod.

Swedish Government have received a report called Perfekt Tajmat that give a few proposals on how to get long term funding for time in Sweden. My guess is that this money is given to support the ongoing production and distribution of time until a decision is made on what to do with the investigation.
